October is COmputer Learning Month

There are alot of ways to utilize the computer for learning at home. Programs like Switched on Schoolhouse are helpful to parents that prefer not to carry the full responsibility for the teaching process. The student sits at the computer and utilizes the capabilites of the program for learning all subjects or just one. There are usually games, reading, flash media, and online access for searches and references. We used it for math one year and it was helpful at the time.
You can also use the computer to access online resources like ambleside online, the Charlotte Mason website. On that site you are given a complete schedule for each grade for free and links to many of the books you will need.
If you are into being freer in your methods, then you can search out the subjects your student is interested in. There are many online museums, on site cameras, and other online resources that can make your student’s learning experience rich and interesting.
It makes sense for frugal homeschooling to utilize as many free resources as you can!

    Free is always best when it comes to homeschooling. ;) There are so many great computer games and online services.
