2008 is upon us. in a few hours we will be saying goodbye to 2007 and looking ahead with hope and anticipation to 2008.

There is something about the changing year that brings us to a place of introspection and resolution.

But too much of the time that process focuses on the things we did that were not to our personal satisfaction rather than the things we did that we are pleased with. So this year I want to ask you to do things a little differently.

When you think about what has transpired in your homeschool experience spend more time congratulating yourself over your successes than your failures. Look not only at the things that you didn’t get done but at the things you did get done, and especially at the things that went really well. What are your strengths? Where are you doing a good job?

We tend to think and brood too much about what we perceive as failure. By going over it and dwelling on it in our minds we give it more energy than it deserves. The Bible warns us to dwell on good and positive things. To build ourselves up, not tear ourselves down.

As you move into the New Year make one resolution. Resolve to focus on the positives and allow God to handle the negatives. Speak things that are not as though they were, in a good way…and enjoy the particular season of life you are in.

Happy New Year from my home to yours.
