Vermicomposting is just a way of saying growing worms in compost. I know, icky! But this is a great science project on several levels.
First it is great because you have to create a habitat. Studying about habitat and how things work together to keep the habitat alive and growing is the basis of earth science. Then, you get to study about worms, their life cycles, and how they work, their anatomy and how they interact with other areas of nature.
So far so good, right?
Since vermicompost produces casting that are great for the garden you have a jumping off place for the study of organic gardening and plant growth in general. I figure we can get a whole year of science out of this one project!!
Here is more information on how to do it: Vermicompost: Composting With Worms
