Monday Inspiration: Homeschooling Boys

How was your weekend? Mine was actually pretty quiet.  Things are settling down here with my daughter, her husband and two kids moving in and us adjusting to them (we have 6 kids at home besides) and then of course, they have a huge adjustment to make as well. Thank God the house is large and the pantry seems to be magically providing (thanks, God). Marc started a partime job at Home Depot so he is back working. Hopefully Erin and Jon will be able to find jobs soon and things will ease up financially.

Anyway..Homeschooling takes many forms! This month, I guess for my family, the form is learning to love, respect and esteem eachother!

Throwing Marshmallows has some excellent images that, to me, totally nail what it is to homeschool boys. I loved them.

These Go To Eleven has a thought provoking post on educating boys

An excellent post on increading the attention span of boys can be found on The Homeschool Blog

Summer adds her thoughts over at Mom is Teaching

Sexton Crew made me laugh with Smokin’ in the Boys Room, which was also a song I really liked in 1973 ..it made me feel cool and rebellious.

And, Lee, at the Homescholar Helper has some great thoughts on boys.

Basically, I think overall that boys have a tendency to need more hands on..more movement..and more change than girls.  I like Charlotte Mason for boys because it keeps the learning time short.  I like Unit studies for boys because it helps them pull it all together, and there is usually alot of activities. I like unschooling for boys because it is good for them to pursue what interested them as individuals.

Boys just need to be allowed to be boys…girls need to be allowed to be girls …and kids need to be allowed to be kids, whatever that looks like!
