This is an awesome video on how to teach reading by using a word notebook. It is a a simple, but helpful idea.
My kids have always learned to read when they are good and ready, and sometimes that is at four, and other times it is at nine…It has depended alot on the particular child..BUT I cans see that having a system like this would definitely make it fun…especially forĀ a child that was artistic, or kinsetic.
You could make the notebook special, decorate it, illustrate it…there are all kinds of ways to create it in such a way that your child was interested in doing it.
Have you tried somethign like this? If so, how did it work?

Interesting video. My almost 6-year-old has childhood apraxia (a speech disorder) and so I am looking for different ways to teach her. She really wants to be able to read (probably because brothers love to); maybe we’ll give this a try.
Sometimes simple really is better:)
mkm-Oddly, several of my kids have had reading delays. I say oddly because my husband and I are both linguists.
I have had the best results from simple things as well!
